Raids is a brand new addition to Call of Duty that requires precise teamwork. It’s going to fall under the “Special Ops” umbrella, which is another new feature that arrives with Modern Warfare 2. The first episode, Raid Episode 1: Atomgrad, was revealed at The Game Awards. It set expectations for a very strategically-focused co-op mission with an emphasis on the tactical aspect of the game as opposed to the more action-packed gameplay we saw in Warzone 2.0. According to the official blog, Atomgrad picks up following the events of the single-player campaign of MW2. It will see Price, Farah, and Gaz, infiltrate an underground bunker in Urzikstan in search of their mission team. To access this, players will need a Raid Key from doing the following things:

Complete a specific Daily Challenge in Special Ops and Multiplayer Place in the top 20 in a 2.0 Battle Royale playlist Use the final extract helicopter in DMZ (have at least $30,000)

The main reward for completing the new Call of Duty raid is a “familiar face as a brand new Operator to use in Multiplayer and Special Ops, as well as in Warzone 2.0” and a harder-difficulty playlist. Other items such as new cosmetics and easter eggs will also be littered all throughout the mission. Call of Duty’s first-ever Raids will arrive on December 14 alongside the Season One Reloaded update. Activision Blizzard didn’t reveal how often these new episodes will release or if they’ll all be free-to-play. But, we can assume that they’ll at least be the latter if only to give players a reason to keep on playing Modern Warfare 2 throughout its presumed two-year life cycle. Fingers crossed, these post-launch story content campaigns for Modern Warfare 2 will carry over to future Call of Duty games.
