Speaking of Cyberpunk 2077, the Polish studio has agreed to a $1.8 million settlement for a class-action lawsuit by a group of investors. CDPR faced a total of four separate class-action suits that were merged into one common action. The group asserts that the studio hid the true state of the game from investors when it was released. The stocks of CD Projekt Red fell sharply after the botched launch of Cyberpunk 2077 causing investors to lose money. The game was plagued by game-breaking issues, rendering the game unplayable on older generation consoles. The settlement amount covers “settlement administration costs, taxes, attorney’s fees, and costs” for eligible class members. The eligible class members are investors who purchased CD Projekt Red stocks from the period of January 16, 2020, to December 17, 2020. CDPR’s for Cyberpunk has been curtailed by the technical issues the game had for at least a year following its launch. CR Project Red originally intended for the open-world action RPG to have a multiplayer component after release. The feature has been scrapped due to the studio prioritizing fixing the numerous issues that players have encountered. As a result of bugs, CDPR took the game off the PlayStation store for months as CDPR had its hands full on fixing the game. Cyberpunk 2077 later returned to the PlayStation digital storefront on June 2021 after several patches were made to the game. The game’s resurgence started in February 2022 as CD Projekt Red with the release of the Version 1.15 update. The patch included a next-gen update and a free DLC. Cyberpunk continued its revival with the release of the Edgerunner update and the release of the Netflix anime Cyberpunk Edgerunner. The game became the most-played single-player title on Steam, and subsequently beat The Witcher 3’s record for the most number of concurrent players on the platform. CDPR is now moving forward with Cyberpunk 2077 and preparing to launch the Phantom Liberty expansion. The studio is already setting its sights on making a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077 codenamed Orion with production set to begin in 2024. CD Projekt Red will have its hands full in the coming year with as it is taking on multiple projects. Aside from the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, the studio is also working on The Witcher 4 and a reboot of the original Witcher trilogy.
