An earlier report confirmed that Obi-Wan Kenobi was getting its first trailer some time this week, and this is exactly what happened. While the nearly two-minute-long trailer didn’t reveal much, it contained enough information for fans to dissect for the time being. Case in point, the trailer confirms that at least parts of the show will pick up exactly where 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith left off, with Obi-Wan on the run from the Galactic Empire who is hell-bent on hunting him down. With 19 years separating the events between Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the upcoming Disney+ spin-off show will have a lot of ground to cover. But, while much of the show remains a mystery, it is confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader, which suggests that the story will include an eventual confrontation between the former best friends. McGregor’s iconic role as Obi-Wan is widely considered one of the bright spots of the widely reviled Star Wars prequel trilogy. Seeing him return as Kenobi nearly two decades later is enough to get fans to tune in on May 25. Still, we’re hoping that Disney will rectify some of the issues with the Star Wars prequels and use Kenobi to spark more interest in the trilogy’s other interesting characters such as Ahsoka Tano, who is getting her spin-off as well. Speaking of interesting characters, you can make out Darth Vader’s unmistakable breathing at the end of the first Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer. Even if we didn’t see the iconic villain on screen, we know for sure that Vader will play a substantial role in the show. Most likely, we’ll see the first couple of episodes focus on the Inquisitors as it builds up the tension towards a showdown between Vader and Kenobi. If there’s one thing that the Disney+ spin-offs have perfect, it’s the art of the finale as each series appears to one-up each other. Following the appearance of Luke Skywalker at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2, The Book of Boba Fett’s finale featured an ensemble cast that was a full-on nostalgia blast for older Star Wars fans. Although the on-screen appearance of Vader and Kenobi should be enough to break the internet, we won’t put it past Disney to find a way to exceed expectations by throwing in an unexpected cameo or two before the show wraps up.
