— Scream (@ScreamMovies) January 1, 2023 The first one is a new Scream 6 poster that guides you through every one that fell victim to Ghostface. Then, USA Today dropped a menacing sight with Ghostface lurking in a dark New York alley. The famed Woodsboro killer now has his eyes set on a much larger locale after bidding his usual murder playground goodbye. If Scream 5 (or just SCREAM), was Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s way of paying homage to Wes Craven, the sixth entry in the franchise represents a massive step forward - and we mean that in a literal sense.

♬ Horror atmosphere piano & SE. - Kohrogi This isn’t the first time a Scream film has taken place elsewhere, but the new setting teases a much larger body count. New York City is one of the most populated cities in the world and it gives Scream 6 much more room to breathe. Although we don’t know if audiences will do much breathing at all. As the initial teaser trailer proves, the filmmakers aren’t afraid to use claustrophobia to scare viewers to the edge of their seats. For what it’s worth, the directors seem confident in the new setting, saying that Scream 6 will be the biggest Scream film yet. If nothing else, the expansive environment would help explain Scream 6’s smorgasbord of returning and fresh faces, including one of the newest scream queens on the block, Samara Weaving. We’ll find out on March 10 if Ghostface’s adventures in the Big Apple will push the franchise forward.
