While speaking at the event, Ackles told fans he was in discussions to star in a superhero film. When fans pressed him about which movie it was, he responded that it was Deadpool. He added that he was eventually dropped for scheduling conflicts. In his words, “There was definitely a movie that I was very much in talks about… I wasn’t available, so the train just kind of stopped there. But, had I been available, I would’ve had to, you know, jump through the studio hoops and jump through the, you know, producer hoops and stuff. But I had a really good shot, and it’s a movie that I really, really like. [What was the movie?] Deadpool.” Nevertheless, Ackles seemed content with how things turned out. Although he admitted that he would have loved to play the role, he stated that he might have ruined the film for many people had he been cast as the character since his ex-girlfriend worked on the film, too. Ackles also has a history of missing out on Marvel roles. Apparently, Ackles auditioned for Captain America as well but lost to Chris Evans, who fans agree did the character justice. Not long after that, he was offered the role of Hawkeye. However, he had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with Supernatural. Ackles is renowned for his role as Dean Winchester in the hit series Supernatural, which took most of his career. However, he has starred in other notable films and series, including Days of Our Lives, Blonde, Dark Angel, Walker, Kings of Con, The Boys, and Dawson’s Creek. Despite losing out on playing a Marvel Comics character, Ackles has starred as a superhero in some superhero films. He featured as Jason Teague in the fourth season of Smallville. The actor had originally auditioned for the role of Clark Kent which he lost to Tom Welling. Also, Ackles lent his voice to Bruce Wayne/Batman and Jason Todd/Red Hood in the animated films Batman The Long Halloween and Batman: Under the Red Hood respectively. Deadpool is a superhero film that is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The first film followed the titular character, real name Wade Wilson, as he tracked the man who helped him activate his mutant powers and left him disfigured with the hope that he will find a cure. It starred Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Ed Skrein as Francis Freeman/Ajax, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Tim Miller directed the film while Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Ryan Reynolds served as producers. Also, the film’s script was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The third film in the series is slated for release on November 8, 2024. Speaking of Reynolds, the Canadian actor recently revealed that he co-wrote a script for a Deadpool Christmas movie with the film’s writers but it never saw the light of day.
