AC Valhalla Third DLC Could Take Place in Muspheleim
French Youtuber and reputed leaker, j0nathan, has been hard at work trying to extract all the available information by data mining Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s files. So far, j0nathan has found out some pretty interesting things. The most notable of which is the potential existence of a third DLC for the game. At the moment, there is no confirmation from Ubisoft of support for Valhalla following The Siege of Paris DLC due later this year. However, according to j0nathan’s findings, an announcement is all but guaranteed. In fact, his latest findings hint at more than just the codename, Meteor, for the third AC Valhalla DLC. In a series of tweets, j0nathan reveals that he’s found text within the game’s files that suggests the third DLC could take place in Muspelheim and might even feature dragons. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time that Assassin’s Creed has explored Muspelheim. The nordic realm was part of a series of mythical worlds illustrated by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Senior Concept Artist Martin Deschambault. Although illustrations are not, by any means a confirmation - Deschambault also has illustrations for other realms such as Niflheim, Yggdrasil, Helheim, and Jotunheim - it does give credence to the leaks, especially after what j0nathan found in the in-game files. Not to mention, the mere mention of Muspelheim along with the codename is just too much of a coincidence. For those who do not know, Muspelheim is a realm in Norse mythology. It’s home to the fire giants and is said to be guarded by Surtr. According to the myths, the Surtr plays a key role in the cataclysmic event known as Ragnarok. Just a fair warning to those who haven’t finished Valhalla yet, but we’re about to spoil the ending here. Basically, Valhalla’s ending inside the animus and in real life talks about the end of the world, otherwise known as Ragnarok. In the true ending, Valhalla shows players a cutscene with Odin and the rest of the Norse gods, who is revealed to be Isu. Instead of mead, Odin and the others drink a special liquid that will supposedly allow them to be reincarnated. It allows them to technically survive the end of the world. On the other hand, in Valhalla’s modern-day setting, a figure named The Reader, who is all but confirmed to be the original Assassin’s Creed protagonist, Desmond Miles, talks to Layla about looking for a way to avoid another apocalypse, also known as Ragnarok. Other things also happen at the end of Valhalla. However, for the context of this article, we’ll just stop discussing it here. Considering how much the end of the world and Ragnarok is either mentioned or alluded to in the base game itself, a third DLC that tackles the actual event or how to prevent it, makes a lot of sense.
What’s Next for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla?
The COVID-19 pandemic really did a number on the game’s development. This resulted in Valhalla releasing with a myriad of problems. Thankfully, Ubisoft has been very vocal and apologetic about its shortcomings. Ubisoft just released update 1.2.1. This adds numerous changes to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but is mostly fixes earlier issues. Ubisoft is expected to release the Wrath of the Druids DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on May 13. After this, fans can look forward to the aforementioned Siege of Paris DLC. Unfortunately, just like Wrath of the Druids, Ubisoft might push back its expected Summer 2021 release date by a couple of weeks, if not months.
