All jokes aside, it’s been quite a long time since we’ve heard more about the project.

Now, it seems like Netflix is finally ready to start filming.

Is Netflix’s live-action Avatar going to be good?

According to Hollywood North Buzz, Netflix intends to start filming its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender this November in Vancouver. For the unaware, Avatar: The Last Airbender is the first media released for the Avatar universe. The show originally ran for three seasons on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. Its success successfully kickstarted an entire franchise. The series spawned a sequel and has since expanded into video games and comics. It even got a live-action adaptation from M. Night Shyamalan in 2010. Unfortunately, no one likes to talk about that live-action adaptation. The movie bombed with critics and audiences alike despite raking in a good $319.7 million on a $150 million budget in the box offices. The series has always remained popular. However, its return to the streaming giant in 2020 has reinvigorated fan interest in the franchise. Thus, it makes sense for Netflix to want to capitalize on this as soon as possible. Although, it seems like Netflix isn’t off to a good start. The original co-creators of the show, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzo, left the series after initially signing on to help oversee it due to “creative differences”. If it’s any consolation, Netflix’s live-action Avatar adaptation will see Albert Kim helm the series as its showrunner (Sleepy Hollow). Dan Lin, Ryan Halprin, and Lindsey Liberator are all on board as the producers. For those who are curious to see where DiMartino and Konietzo are up to now, we’ve got good news. After working on both The Last Air Bender and The Legend of Korra, the two will serve as co-chief officers of a new animated Avatar movie that is currently in development by the Avatar Studios, a new Nickelodeon division.
