Many fans expected some kind of license reshuffling after EA didn’t really do a whole lot with it. They still have the license, but so do others, including Ubisoft; confirmed to be working on a new open world title, and Aspyr; rumored to be making either a remaster of the classic KotOR, or an entirely new entry in the Old Republic series. Separate from Aspyr’s efforts is a new report that claims a port for Nintendo Switch of the two KotOR games is in the works. The leak, posted to /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/, indicates that the games will be upscaled versions of the mobile ports that were recently released. If the source is correct, the ports will only be available digitally without any physical copies to be bought in stores. Unlike the mobile ports, however, the two titles will be lumped together and sold as one package, with an MSRP of $30. This seems about right for games of their age, despite how popular and ageless they are. Fans don’t even need to wait too long to take these seminal Star Wars RPGs with them on the go - should the leak pan out, the Switch port will be available as soon as Q3 this year. The source also claims that Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel, The Sith Lords won’t be the only classic Star Wars games getting ported to the Switch this year. We’d have a few guesses, like Rogue Squadron (a movie was recently announced, after all) and the Jedi Knight series. While the mobile ports are functionally well made, and KotOR is a joy on any platform, playing The Sith Lords on mobile and Switch probably isn’t the ideal choice. The game’s troubled development led to an incomplete launch, with a fan-made Restored Content Mod being all but essential for a proper experience. Using the TLSRCM on Switch won’t be possible, unfortunately.
